7 Tips for In-Person Interviews

By Alexandra Cross on

Virtual interviews have been the norm since the rise of remote and hybrid work. But now, many companies are shifting back to in-person meetings, which can feel both exciting and intimidating for job seekers.

If you’re on the job hunt, freshen up on the basics of face-to-face interviews and hone the skills that will set you apart. Here are 7 tips to get you back in the swing of meeting in person.

#1 Plan your travel route in advance. Arrive early and establish the strong first impression that you’re punctual and mindful of others’ time.

#2 Dress to impress. Do your research and wear clothing that aligns with the company’s culture. It’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed.

#3 Be attentive. It’s important to remove potential distractions for both you and the interviewer, so be sure to turn off your phone.

#4 Come prepared. Bring a notepad, pen, and a few copies of your resume. If you have design or writing samples to show, bring your laptop as well.

#5 Prepare questions. Come ready with insightful questions to show your enthusiasm for the role and interest in the company.

#6 Be mindful in conversation. Take the time to listen fully and consider your responses before answering questions.

#7 Be yourself. Even with an ideal resume and background, companies want to learn about who you are to factor in the cultural fit as well.

A return to in-person interviews can feel daunting, but if you’re properly prepared, they can be an opportunity to showcase who you are and what you bring to the role. Have questions or want to talk? Reach out.
